Return of Las Galletas Half Marathon with Covid safety restrictions
Arona is finalising preparations for the XXIV edition of the Las Galletas Half Marathon on Sunday, September 26th, with strict security measures in the face of the coronavirus pandemic.
The test, which takes place in the urban circuit of the nucleus of Las Galletas, is registered in the national calendar of the Royal Spanish Athletics Federation and runs through an approved circuit. The route goes through the TF 6222, TF 6225 and TF 6221 roads in Las Galletas – Arona – and will be closed to traffic. The test will be controlled by the Committee of Judges of the Canarian Athletics Federation.
To carry out this edition, extra measures had to be taken to guarantee the COVID safety of the participants, so the organisation has restricted the number of runners and has axed the five kilometre event but kept the 10.8 and 21 km. In addition, some services, such as physiotherapy, have had to be suspended.
After verifying the runners who had registered last April, who have a reserved space, there are still some left, both in the distance of 10.8 and in the 21.00 km. Registration can be done at mediomaratonlasgalletas.com until Friday, September 17th.
This test is considered one of the pioneers organised in the south of the island of Tenerife. The records in the Half Marathon distance are held by Nicodemus Kiprono with a time of 1:04:11 in 2004 and Maria Abel 1:13:30 in 2001.The organisation allocates around € 9,000 in prizes, as well as trophies for the first three of each category in the Half Marathon and 10.8 km distances.
