Cabildo’s warning over mushroom collecting

Tenerife Cabildo, through the area of Management of the Natural Environment and Safety, is reminding the population that mycological activity in the protected natural areas of the island can only be carried out with prior authorisation.

This application, completely free of charge, is for
conservation and control purposes only. You must carry the responsible
declaration document with you at all times and show it to the Environment
Agents, who will control the activity and ensure the correct development of the
collections.

“These days, with the rains and the appearance of
humidity, it will be the right time of year for the collection of mushrooms and
fungi, but we must bear in mind that if we want to maintain this traditional
use of our mountains and that it is compatible with the conservation of nature,
it is necessary that the collectors heed the recommendations and request the
corresponding authorisations,” said area councillor, Isabel García.

In addition to this request, people who travel to the
mountains for this activity must take into account that the collection of
mushrooms is expressly prohibited in the Special Natural Reserve of Las Palomas
and in the Exclusion Zones of the Natural Park of Corona Forestal, where there
is no access is allowed.

Only a maximum of 3 kg per day can be collected and it is
forbidden to use any tool that can remove the mulch, such as rakes, sickles or
hoes.

The mushrooms will be harvested by clean cutting at ground
level and they will be transported in containers that allow the mushrooms to
aerate and the spread of their spores, being expressly prohibited the transport
in plastic bags or containers.
