Santa Ursula pays homage after woman’s shocking death 

 Santa Úrsula City Hall was the scene of a minute of silence as the municipality joined together to show its condemnation of gender violence and offer condolences to the family and friends of the woman murdered in town . 

“With this simple act, we seek to underline the unconditional condemnation of any type of violence against women, while at the same time transferring our support, condolences and solidarity in these difficult moments of pain to all those close to the victim” said a spokesperson.The scene was replicated in municipalities throughout Tenerife, as well as in the Canary Islands and on the mainland.During the act, in which members of the local corporation, municipal workers and residents gathered, the mayor of Santa Juan, Juan Acosta, read a manifesto of rejection of this new murder; “a scourge before which, as a society, we must all be united so as not to stop fighting it”.The woman murdered in La Corujera is the 24th fatal death of male violence in Spain since the year began, and the second in the Canary Islands. In addition, it is the third in Santa Úrsula and number 94 in the archipelago since 2003, the year in which the records were registered.One man has been arrested on suspicion of murder but four others are helping police in connection with the after-math of her shocking death.
