Take a picture from your balcony competition
La Laguna residents are being invited to take pictures from their balconies during the coronavirus lockdown as it could win them a prize, as well as giving them something extra to do.
The local council is inviting them to join the photographic
project # PHEdesdemibalcón, promoted by PHotoESPAÑA, the International Festival
of Photography and Visual Arts. The authority will gather a selection of the
best 50 photographs taken from the balconies and windows posted on Instagram
with the hashtags # PHEdesdemibalcón, # PHE20 and @photoespana to be exhibited
next June in an emblematic place in the city.
Councillor Yaiza López Landi said: “With this
initiative we want to recognise the effort and commitment of everyone during
these days of isolation, inviting them to explore their photographic creativity
and to show the world what their experience has been. In this way, our
balconies and windows will become exhibition halls in which to collectively
share each of their views.”
Cities like Madrid, Salamanca, Valladolid, Santander, A
Coruña, Alcobendas, Alcalá de Henares, Badajoz and Seville have already
confirmed their participation in this event.
“In these moments when the world is submerged in a
complicated stage, windows and balconies have taken on a special meaning. We
look out for them to keep in touch with the outside world, we explore new forms
of communication and we try to bring encouragement and thanks to those who
cannot see us, but who do listen to us, ” say the organisers.
Those interested in participating should follow the PHotoESPAÑA
account on the Instagram social network (@photoespana_) and upload the photos
to each person’s individual profile, adding the hashtags # PHEdesdemibalcón, #
PHE20 and @photoespana_.
The photographs must not meet any technical requirement and
may be taken by professional and amateur photographers. The call period expires
to May 17 and to register participation you must fill out the form at www.phe.es.
From today until May 17, a selection of the best
participating images will be shown every day on the PHotoESPAÑA website through
a virtual gallery and once the call is over, the organisation will choose from
among all the participants a selection of 50 images which will be exhibited
next June in a group show in an emblematic location in the city.
This exhibition, together with those of the other
participating cities, will mean the official opening of the XXIII edition of
the Festival, which this year will be held throughout the summer, until the end
