Women’s Solidarity Race attracts record attendance

The streets of the historic centre of La Laguna hosted the 12th edition of the Women’s Solidarity Race which brought together 2,300 participants, thus establishing a new record for attendance at this event. In fact, the challenge has not stopped growing since its launch in 2009 when there were 200 people who took part.

The race is organised by the CEA Tenerife 1984, with the collaboration of the Auto-nomous Sports Organisation (OAD) of Aguere, within its policy of support for sporting events that transmit healthy lifestyle habits to the population.
The Plaza del Cristo was filled with fuchsia t-shirts and despite the departure not being until 11am, the crowds turned up well in advance to create a fantastic atmosphere, with many people queuing at the stands of Amate and the AECC to register.
At 10.30am, the music began to play for the warm-up, which was directed by Patri and Juan, two monitors of the OAD. The participants followed the instructions of both to get in tune before facing the two kilometres of travel.
Idaria Afonso, La Laguna’s sports councillor and president of the OAD, was responsible for signalling the start, before joining the group of runners. The participants took more than five minutes to leave, with a notable presence of children and people with disabilities.
The return to the Plaza del Cristo was done gradually, because although the first completed the tour in about ten minutes, most took it more calmly, jogging and even walking.
The party continued with Ricardo Andrade, who took the stage to lead a cardio-box class that was followed by most runners.
Idaira Afonso expressed her pleasure at the success of the event: “We are very happy to have reached that record of participation but also for the familiar nature of the meeting. We are facing a solidarity date and I think that has been noticed throughout the morning. ”
Those who gave their support this year included: Guzmán Sport, Base Deportes Natalia, Tienda Empate, Supermercado El Parque, Ferretería Marlo, Colegio Luther King Laguna, The Garage, Tiendas Belf, Bar Carmita Las Canteras, Colegio Hispano Británico, Colegio Fernando III El Santo, Mundi Sport La Orotava, Bar Benidorm, Cafetería Reineta, Ferretería Marlo Candelaria, Movement-Training Sessions, Gimnasio Venus Energym and Zensaciones Terapias.
