Woman diver dies in Gran Canaria
A diver has died on the coast of Gran Canaria. The tragedy happened on El Cabrón beach in the municipality of Agüimes just before 11.20am. The victim was a woman aged 55.
The Canary Emergency Service, with a basic life support ambulance and a medicalised ambulance, together with the Gran Canaria Emergency Consortium,
Civil Guard and local police were called to the scene.
A spokesman for 112 said: “The Emergency and Security Coordination Centre (CECOES) 1-1-2 of the Canary Islands Government received an alert informing that a diver suffered a faint when she was coming out of the water and the people who were on the beach helped to get her out and take her to the shore. 1-1-2 immediately activated the necessary emergency resources.”
“Upon arrival of health resources and verifying that she was in cardiorespiratory arrest, they performed basic and advanced cardiopul-monary resuscitation without obtaining a result, confirming her death.”
Consortium firefighters collaborated in the rescue and the victim’s transfer to the SUC ambulance.
Police services instructed the corresponding proceed-ings.
