International athletes to converge in Santa Cruz in May 

Santa Cruz will be the official headquarters of the XIX Ibero-American Athletics Championship this spring.

The announcement was made during a press con-ference attended by the Mayor, Patricia Hernández. This will be the 19th edition of the prestigious tournament.
The event, chaired by the president of the Canary Islands Government, Ángel Víctor Torres, was also attended by the president of the Cabildo de Tenerife, Pedro Martín, the Mayor of La Laguna, Luis Yeray Gutiérrez, as well as the president of the Spanish Federation Athletics, Raúl Chapado.
Tenerife was praised for having the optimal conditions to hold a competition of this size although various im-provement works in facilities will be necessary.
The fundamental core of the competitions will be theTíncer stadium in Santa Cruz where it is expected that about 500 athletes will meet between May 22nd and 24th.
The municipal councillor highlighted the opportunity for the capital and especially for residents to have welcome the most prominent world figures of athleticism.
