Lanzarote firefighter blazes a trail in Hawaii
Lanzarote Cabildo, through its president, María Dolores Corujo and sports advisor, Francisco Javier Aparicio, have conveyed their congratulations to the athlete of San Bartolomé, Roberto Betancort Corujo, for his more than meritorious position in the triathlon world championship “Ironman” celebrated in Hawaii.
“It is an immense pride that Roberto takes the name of our island and our people to a test as demanding as this, com-peting on the other side of the world,” said Maria Dolores Corujo.
Francisco Javier Aparicio, highlighted that Roberto, who is a firefighter for the Lanzarote Security and Emergency Consortium, “is an example of teamwork and integration with his colleagues, in addition to his humility as a person.”
The Hawaiian Ironman World Championship “Kona” consists of a 226.7-kilometre journey that takes place by bicycle, swimming and finally running, being one of the most demanding tests in the world. Some 2,272 people partici-pated in this year’s edition, competing in a volcanic environment – similar to Lanzarote – with temperatures of 35º and cross winds of up to 72 km / h.
