El Sauzal marks Canary first with artificial turf
The football field of La Esperanza in El Sauzal was the setting for the opening of the most advanced artificial turf in the Canary Islands.
The event was attended by the president of the Cabildo, Pedro Martín and the Mayor of El Rosario, Escolástico Gil, in addition to the insular director of sports, Laura Castro and the president of the Tenerife Football Federation, Juan Padrón. The UD Egatesa players checked the quality of the new “green” of the ‘Maximino Baca-llado’, approved by FIFA.
The work was carried out by the company Serdican SL, budgeted at 137,178.68 euros and is part of the island programme “Tenerife Verde Plus 2017-2021”.
“This long-awaited start comes almost two years later than expected due to breach of the terms of the first winning company,” said a council spokesman.
Pedro Martín explained that the work was financed 50 per cent by the Cabildo de Tenerife and El Rosario council and stressed the importance of “having quality sports facilities on the island, of which the field of La Esperanza will become a reference. ”
Scholastic Gil referred to the problems in the execution of the work: “It’s been almost two years since we put it out to tender for the first time and I know first-hand the difficulties that many of you have suffered, especially children of the lower categories, as well as their families, ” he said. “However, today we are here. In a soccer field that has the best artificial turf in Tenerife.”
