Arona starts early with anti-violence campaign in classrooms
Arona has brought the campaign to eliminate violence against women to the classroom.
The social services department is promoting awareness-raising work-shops in all primary, ESO and baccalaureate centres of the municipality on the occasion of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women which will be held on November 25th.
The workshops are divided into two different pro-grammes, one of them will be developed in the fifth and sixth grade courses of the 12 centres of the municipality, focusing on the prevention and awareness of sexual abuse in minors. The second will be carried out with the students of 4th of ESO and 1st of Bachelor of secondary schools in Arona, focused in this case on raising awareness about pornography and sexuality, which will be taught by professionals of the Arena Women Federation and Laurisilva.
The programme will span more than two months and include specific workshops for families and for teachers.
The Mayor of Arona, José Julián Mena said: “The development of a society starts from its base, so we must transmit the necessary values to the new generations so they know what their rights are and what they can do in sensitive situations. Therefore, from the town hall we are committed to education, with workshops and campaigns that com-plement the training in the classrooms. It is a task that we must always remember not only on commemorative days.”
