Road worker rescued after falling down well
Firefighters of Tenerife were faced with a difficult task when called in to rescue a man who had fallen down a well in Icod de los Vinos.
The alert concerning the plight of a local council worker was raised just before 10am. The man had been performing road cleaning and maintenance when he fell down the well on calle Pantaleona near the Cueva del Viento. The exact circumstances are under investigation.
According to the 112 emergency control centre, the man, whose age was not released, fell about 12ft.
Firefighters and medics went to the scene and a pulley system was set up to aid his rescue.
One of his legs had to be freed and he was fitted with a neck brace before being winched to safety. The man was then taken to hospital in the north for treatment to a lower leg injury which was described as “moderate”.
