Wake room project is progressing, says Granadilla
Granadilla council has dismisssed “scaremongering” over the project to pro-
vide a wake room in the town and says work on the one million euro project is expected to begin in September.
Progress had been called into question by Ciudadanos but councillor for works, María Concepción Cabrera Venero stressed: “Thanks to the current group of government and its commitment, the demanded and necessary facility may soon be a reality for the residents of the centre.”
A new architect is in charge of the project, she added.
The provision of a wake room has had a long journey since planning began in the last quarter of 2016 and for which it has been necessary to modify the current PGO of 2005, which only allowed the installation of equipment destined to mortuary services within the scope of the municipal cemetery and adjacent lands.
During the first months of 2018, the plot was acquired by the council on which the future funeral home will be built, with an economic investment of 92,838.70 euros for the purchase of the plot.
The council hopes that San Isidro will also get a wake room in due course.
