Lanzarote to link up with Lyon through new easyJet route
EasyJet has announced the opening of a new connection between Lanzarote and the French city of Lyon from this winter.
It will be the 15th route that the British company will maintain with the island, reinforcing its recent distinction of the 2019 Island of Lanzarote Award granted by the Island Council through the Lanzarote Foreign Promotion Society for becoming “in recent years, a very important tourist agent with the opening of new routes in a sustained way, even in periods of uncertainty. ”
Minister of Tourism Promotion of the Cabildo de Lanzarote, Ángel Vázquez thanked “this new show of confidence by easyJet for Lanzarote as a destination” and recalls that Turismo Lanzarote maintains with the airline “stable marketing collaboration agreements which also influence the backing that easyJet is making on the island. ”
He highlighted the importance of having this new connection, which will operate twice a week (Monday and Friday) between December 13 and March 27 “in a market as attractive to the island as is the French given its high spending potential and its taste for the gastronomic and leisure offer, as an alternative to the sun and beach, which the island offers. ”
EasyJet maintains two other connections between Lanzarote and France, specifically with the airports of Paris Charles de Gaulle and Bordeaux, the latter opened last June. In addition, the British low cost airlineconnects César Manrique-Lanzarote airport with London Gatwick, London Luton, London Southend, Man-chester, Liverpool, Belfast, Bristol, Berlin Schönefeld, Milan Malpensa, Venice, Amsterdam and Basel.
According to data provided by the airline itself, from January to June of this year more than 250,000 passen-gers have chosen easyJet to travel to or from Lanzarote, increasing compared to 2018 from 15 to 19 direct flights in the summer season and from 32 to 34 during winter.
