Cabildo warning over Chinese lanterns

Tenerife Cabildo has sent out a warning to people not to use the Chinese-type lighted lanterns during the current fire alert crisis.

The authority says they are a real danger to the tinderbox conditions of all the islands and could very easily start a serious blaze.
The warning was posted on the authority’s Twitter site after one of these lanterns was found in the Teide National Park.
“The lantern seen in the image fell on the @pnteide. An object that can cause forest fires. Given the high temperatures that are affecting the island, we call on the citizens to not use these lanterns during these days,” said the bulletin.
