Planning starts for 2019 Santa Cruz Extreme
The city council is to enhance the quality and sustainability of the 2019 “Santa Cruz Extreme”.
The sports and security departments are coordinating their resources for the next edition of this event to be held on October 19th in Anaga.
Councillor for security, Florentino Guzmán held a coordination meeting with Civil Protection technicians, representatives of the Santa Cruz Sustainable Foundation and the sports commission that organises the Santa Cruz Extreme race. The next edition of this test will take place on the usual route of the different distances, although with significant variations and improvements.
“Our goal is for Santa Cruz Extreme to be claimed as one of the most important mountain trials in Tenerife, in all aspects, from the safety device, to its social and economic impact, “ Sr. Guzman explained.
But he stressed that the growth of the race “must be matched by criteria of sustainability and care for the environment” as well as a zero-plastic approach.
The next edition, in which some 400 athletes are already registered, will bring important changes for the organisation. In principle the finish area of the race will return to the downtown area of the city, in the vicinity of the Plaza de España and Francisco la Roche Avenue, where it also aims to create entertainment areas and activities that citizens can enjoy.
This revitalisation of the Santa Cruz Extreme also adds, in addition to its usual routes of 15, 26 and 49 kilometres by Anaga, a time trial in which the wheelchair joëlette will be used.
