José flies the flag in Police Games for seventh time
For yet another year, Tenerife policeman José Carlos Báez González is taking part in the XVIII edition of the World Police and Fire Games held in Chengdu, China.
The officer from La Laguna is participating for the seventh consecutive year in these games which have great worldwide impact, along with 20,000 athletes from around the world.
Sr. Báez already has more than 50 medals won over these years, in the disciplines of swimming and open water. In this edition, he will participate in the various distances and styles, as well as the open water test in a single distance of 3200 metres.
The event, held once every two years in different cities of the world, takes place between August 8th and 18th and will be attended by more than 20,000 active or retired member athletes from both departments.
The objective, in addition to ensuring that both the Local Police of La Orotava, the local council and the municipality itself are represented in an international sporting event, is to repeat the successes of previous editions.
José Carlos Báez González has participated in six World Police and Fire Championships: in 2007 in Australia; 2009 in Canada; 2011 in the US; Belfast, Ireland in 2013, Fairfax, Virginia in 2015 and in Los Angeles in 2017. In these games he has won 37 gold medals, seven silver medals and two bronze medals.
These Olympics not only represent a sporting competition, but are an important opportunity to gather and exchange diverse cultures and communities; In addition, it has a great media impact, not only in the local media of Tenerife and the Canary Islands, but also in the international press.
