Hand-made jewellery shines in La Orotava market
Juli Ruiz, with the JR brand, incorporates hand made jewellery to the wide range of products that the Valle de La Orotava Street Market offers to the public every Saturday.
Specialised in the design and elaboration of traditional Canarian rings, brooches, earrings of all kinds, bracelets and pendants, he carries out commissioned work in gold, 925 silver and other metals, such as brass, copper, aluminum and bronze.
Juli points out that “all the works are handmade” and that in addition to metals, he uses “other materials such as wood, stones, lava, seashells, fabrics, threads, leather and laces” to make badges, shields, trophies , rings, reading points, miniature canary knives and details such as pins.
This artisan, who joined the Mercadillo de La Orotava in May 2019, likes to recreate in his pieces some of the artistic manifestations of the guanches of the Canary Islands, such as rock engravings, spirals, pintaderas, podomorphs, decorative motifs of pottery etc.
