New guide is a must for El Hierro visitors
El Hierro’s Cabildo has presented its first Ecotourism Guide covering the island’s biosphere reserve and geopark.
President and tourism councillor, Belén Allende, accompanied by the Minister of the Environment, Héctor Hernández and the representative of the company responsible for its execution (Birding Canarias), Juan José Ramos, was in charge of presenting the guide that “will allow us to show the world the charms of our island, which has these two important hallmarks of Unesco.”
El Hierro presents itself as a sustainable destination for nature tourism in this 100-page digital guide in Spanish and English that is divided into two blocks, one descriptive and the other dedicated to the dissemination of nature activities. The guide is available through the web of the Biosphere Reserve, http://www.observatorioelhierro.es, and the Cabildo de El Hierro, www.elhierro.es.
The guide was born with the aim of being a practical tool for those who want to discover the charms of the island of El Hierro. It includes illustrations by two pro-fessionals and the work of a dozen photographers.
Ecotourists will find information about the Bio-sphere Reserve and protected natural areas of El Hierro; the geological heritage of the El Hierro Geopark and the archaeological one; the flora and fauna; crafts, fiestas (with calendar) and traditions; folklore trails and roads; marine species and scuba diving; astrotourism; active tourism (with calendar of the main sporting events); photography of nature and observatory of cetaceans, among others.
The guide closes with the “Charter of Ecotourism” and the ten visits that you can not miss on the island of El Hierro.
