Lanzarote delighted with world beach accolade
Tourism chiefs in Lanzarote have applauded the choice of Papagayo as the best beach in Spain by the readers of Condé Nast Traveler.
According to the influential luxury travel magazine, “this golden protected beach, located south of Lanzarote, has won the vote by a landslide”.
Tourism promotion coun-cillor, Ángel Vázquez said: “It is a magnificent news that further enhances Lanzarote as a tourist destination and demonstrates the quality, care and recognition enjoyed by Lanzarote’s beaches, among which Papagayo stands out without doubt for its spectacular beauty. “
Condé Nast Traveler wrote: “In the south of the island of Lanzarote, in a virgin en-vironment of extreme beauty and protected under the Ajaches Natural Park, is the wild beach of Papagayo, overlooking the neighbouring island of Lobos and Fuer-teventura., Its fine golden sand and the quality of its waters is so transparent that sometimes they acquire an emerald colour so intense that they would match many beaches of the Caribbean.”
Ángel Vázquez (PP) thanked the readers of Condé Nast Traveler Spain for the honour “as it is a great news that further enhances Lanzarote as a tourist destination and demonstrates the quality, care and recognition of the beaches of Lanzarote, among which Papagayo stands out without doubt for its spectacular beauty.”
