Fugitive tried to change his appearance
A British man wanted for ten sex offences in the UK has been caught in Benidorm, despite extensive efforts to change his appearance.
Police say he was hiding on the Costa Blanca after fleeing Britain when he realised he was under investigation.
There was a European arrest warrant on his head for the alleged sexual abuse of two young girls when they were aged 13 and 14. He is alleged to have sneaked into their bedrooms whilst they were asleep.
Police in Spain were helped by the National Crime Agency.
“After learning that he was being investigated, the man fled to the coast of Alicante where he changed his appearance considerably to make it difficult to locate and arrest him,” said a spokesman.
Despite this, police received a tip-off about the suspect hiding low along the Spanish coast.
“The officers located and stopped him yesterday in the town of Benidorm. The judicial authorities of the United Kingdom have charged him with ten crimes against sexual freedom,” the spokesman confirmed.
