La Orotava offers site for new Civil Guard headquarters
La Orotava council has offered to provide land so new Civil Guard offices can be built in the municipality.
The Mayor, Francisco Linares recently held a working meeting with the subdelegate of the government in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Javier Plata, to discuss various topics of interest to the municipality.
Also at the meeting, which took place at the headquarters of the subdelegation itself, was the Lieutenant Colonel responsible for the Civil Guard Command in the province, José María Tienda Serrano, and councillor for security, Narciso Pérez. Among the issues discussed was the willingness of all parties to resume the possible construction of a new building for the Civil Guard in the Villa, as the current facilities have remained small and have several deficiencies.
Sr. Linares expressed the firm commitment of the municipal corporation to resume this initiative and announced that the Consistory will make available the necessary land for this infrastructure to be a reality.
“The work carried out by the Civil Guard, with a very important collaboration and coordination of the Local Police, is key to making La Orotava a safe town and providing the necessary tranquility for our residents,” he said. “That’s why we are interested in collaborating so that they have a new, more extensive facility and allow them to carry out their work more comfortably.”
Sr. Pérez explained that the proposed plot is adjacent to the current quartering covering almost 3,000 square metres and that it would meet the needs programme proposed by the command for future installations.
The La Orotava Civil Guard Post is the largest area on the island, incorporating the Teide National Park, making its facilities a strategic point of security.
