Days of the Tree in Gran Canaria
Gran Canaria Cabildo is preparing for this month of November three days of the Day of the Tree, an annual commitment to reforestation.
The forest month organised by the Cabildo includes several guided and interpreted visits, as well as a new edition of the contest of microrre-lations, five photographic exhibitions in five locations on the island, the filming of a short film made by children and young people in the Finca de Osorio, a cycle of cinema in the Public Library and a day of repopulation in the Campus of Tafira of the University of Las Palmas of Gran Canaria, among other activities.
The objective of this forest month, in its sixth edition, said environment councillor, Miguel Ángel Rodríguez, is to put the forest of Gran Canaria “in the centre of all eyes to make it visible and to stress that the forest is always present in our lives.”
This year, the Tree Day traditionally organised by the Cabildo and the Gran Canaria Mountain Group is multiplied by three, with a plantation on Sunday November 11 in Moya, another one on Saturday 18 in La Manzanilla (Tunte) and a third action in La Palmita (Agaete) scheduled for Saturday 25. In total, more than 1,000 people will repopulate different parts of the island with around 4,000 new trees.
The Cabildo has enabled a gratuitous service of buses and a system of previous regis-tration through the web www.grancanaria.com or calling to the Office of In-formation and Citizen attention, the OIAC, to the 928 21 92 29. The places are limited.
