Major improvement works for one of island’s busiest roads
Details of improvement works on the TF- 21 between Barroso and Cañeñol in La Orotava have been presented by the local council and Tenerife Cabildo.
This is one of the busiest stretches of road on the island and will see work to eliminate curves and the creation of new roundabouts. The in-vestment will exceed 32 mi-llion euros.
The details were given by the president of the Cabildo de Tenerife, Carlos Alonso and the Mayor of La Orotava, Francisco Linares.
The project will affect six kilometres between kilometre 7 and 13.2, approximately between the Camino de la Sierra-El Sauce in Barroso and Cueva del Negro in Cañeño
Sr. Alonso said: “It is a complex project with a very important investment that will be carried out in a single phase.”
Sr. Linares appreciated the Cabildo’s priority for the project in the municipality of La Orotava. He said the work had been requested by residents for many years, since this road connects La Orotava with numerous urban centres and with the National Park of the Cañadas del Teide, making it one of the busiest roads on the island. Along the route there are also several schools, civic and health centres, tourist attractions and trails, among others.
The action consists of the widening of the road in a six-kilometre stretch that will be equipped with a pedestrian path and lighting, which will improve the safety of those who pass through this route. Intersections and accesses will also be improved.
The road will also be made straighter and there will be two lanes with shoulders and containment walls in natural stone. For this, it will be necessary to carry out some expropriations, for which 1,300,000 euros is destined, and only affects one house, the rest are farms.
