Countdown to Race for Life
Paralympic athlete Gema Hassen-Bey has pre sented the XIII edition of the Race for Life, which on December 17th will depart from the Siam Mall with the aim of exceeding 5,000 participants.
President of the Carrera por la Vida Foundation, Brigitte Gypen is hoping to reach this figure as the final preparations are put to the massive event.
The walk/race is organised by the two municipalities of Adeje and Arona , together with the Foundation itself, the Cabildo de Tenerife and various private sponsors whose objective is the collection of funds that will go to the main organisations that fight against breast cancer.
Hence, participants must pre-register and wear a pink shirt that can be purchased from Saturday December 2nd at the doors of the commercial establishment, where the Foundation will have installed a specific position for this cause.
Gema revealed that she had been diagnosed with breast cancer herself and recalled that “a year later I have climbed to the top of Mount Teide”. She said she wanted to back the Race for Life to give something back to Tenerife.
Brigitte Gypen appealed: “Come walk, bring your families and your pets. We have a bus for people who have less mobility or get tired and we will finish the walk with a surprise that I do not want to reveal, besides a raffle. Come and help, what better time than Christmas to do something for others.”
Last year’s event attracted 4,000 people so the 5,000 is an ambitious target but one the organisers hope to reach.
