La Caleta swim postponed until August 5th
La Caleta’s popular swim event is to take place on Saturday, August 5th, organisers have announced.
It was postponed from the original date of July 22nd following the appearance of microalgae in numerous locations along the coast of Tenerife.
Checks carried out showed the area around La Caleta and the Varadero zone had been significantly affected by this natural phenomenon.
The advice given by health chiefs with the Canary Government was NOT to swim whilst the algae was present as a precaution.
For this reason, Adeje council took the decision to postpone the “Travesía a Nado de La Caleta” to the new date of August 5th.
It will now be held in the full framework of the festivities of La Caleta in honour of the Virgin of Carmen.
The schedules are the same: from 10am in the morning collection of equipment; at 11.15 am, the children’s swim; and from noon, the traditional crossing.
“This postponement occurs as a precautionary measure to avoid unwanted incidents, especially in the younger athletes who were to participate in the test,” said a council spokesman.
