Capital gears up for 20 new sporting events by end of year 

Santa Cruz will host a score of new sporting events until the end of the year.

The wide offer will fill the city with football, skateboarding, boxing, skating, track and field, swimming, sailing, motorsports, calisthenic exercises and basketball among others.

Sports councillor, Veronica Meseguer said the capital “has a wide and diverse offer of tournaments and sports championships in order to fill Santa Cruz with sports of all kinds aimed at a wide range of public.”

The city council has also opened submissions from any club or organisation interested in holding an event in the first half of 2018. The deadline is September 30th.

The sports programme of the last four months of the year will start on September 2nd with the celebration of the free clinic ‘A day with Ayoze Pérez’, in which the Newcastle United striker share his football skills with the participants in the Juan Santamaría Municipal Field . That same day, and also on September 3rd, the II Trofeo City of Santa Cruz of Fútbol Sala, organised by Iberia Toscal, will be disputed.

Also for September, although the date has still to be determined, the First Santa Cruz Skateboard Championship will bring lots of excitement to the capital. From September 4th to the 10th, Santa Cruz will host another year of the Boxam International Tournament organised by the Canarian Boxing Federation.

On September 8th, 9th and 10th, there will be an artistic skating skills tournament, followed one week later, on the 17th, by the sixth Southwest Charity Race will take place, in which athletes will be able to demonstrate, once again, their most supportive side.

October will start with the celebration, on Saturday 7th, of the V Cross Fast Civic Military City of Santa Cruz de Tenerife and the already traditional Carrera de Plenilunio, which is part of the activities of this day of animation in the capital.

A day later, on Sunday 8th, there will be the VI Solidarity Crossing to the beach of Las Teresitas, to benefit the Association of Women with Breast Cancer of Tenerife (AMATE).

From October 12th to 15th, the XXIV SAR Infantas Race of Spainm takes place in the Real Club Nautico de Tenerife, while on Saturday 21th, it will be time for theSanta Cruz Extreme Trail.

October will close at full speed with the dispute, on the 27th and 28th, of the XLIII Rally Tenerife Island, valid test for the Championship of the Canary Islands and organised by the Rallyten Sport team.

November will see a Calisthenics (Street Work Out) championship on a date yet to be announced. There will also be the IV International Marathon of Santa Cruz de Tenerife (Sunday 12) and the Popular Race El Corte Inglés (Sunday 26).

To conclude 2017, it is planned to hold the XIX International Sub15 City Tournament of Santa Cruz (from November 30th to December 3rd) under the tutelage of CB Santa Cruz, the VIII Winter Games (December 15th) by the Association of Children’s Centres of Tenerife (ACINTE) and, from the 14th to the 17th of December, the XXI International Junior Basketball Tournament City of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, organised by CB Unelco.
