Popular craft fair unveils attractions of September event
Details have been announced of one of the most popular craft fairs of the Canary Islands.
The 31st Pinolere Craft Fair will be held between September 2nd and 4th and will revolve around the theme of contemporary ceramics.
This regional fair in La Orotava has wide appeal and attracts thousands of people from all over the archipelago as well as further afield. They are holidaymakers and local residents alike.
The preview was given by the Mayor, Francisco Linares and the president and manager of the Pinolere Cultural Association, Leoncio Luis and Jesus Rodríguez respectively.
Also present was the creator of the official poster, Yapci Gómez Lima, a pho-tographer closely linked to the association. It includes a ceramic mackerel by Martín Suárez.
It is already known that the fair will have 220 craftsmen and women displaying and demonstrating their skills.
The event will also turn the spotlight on Canary cuisine as many of the ceramicists work for prestigious and Michelin chefs. For example, Gonzálo Martín Suárez makes many pieces for Berasategui. To this end, there will be a live cooking area.
Sr. Linares said that after more than three decades, the Pinolere Craft Fair was now well-established, with a turnout of around 30,000 people.
He said the work of the Cultural Association was much appreciated, saying: “They are to be thanked and congratulated for their efforts in the recovery and projection of old crafts and bringing our customs, ethnography, traditions and popular culture to the general public.”
He also appreciated the commitment of Tenerife Cabildo and the Canary Government as well as all the artisans.
The aim has always been to make the fair accessible to all. To this end, admission will be just 2.50 euros but advanced tickets can be purchased for just two euros.
They can be purchased in La Orotava at the following points: the Cultural Association and Tasca El Valle (by the tourist office). In addition, they can be purchased at La Ranilla Espacio Artesano in calle Mequinez.
As in previous years, there will be free transport from the centre of La Orotava.
