Free wifi again at popular beach
The beach of El Socorro in Los Realejos is once again a free wifi zone this summer.
The Mayor, Manuel Domínguez, and councillor for new technology, Laura Lima, initiated the distribution of individualised cards which users will need to register their respective connections.
These cards can be requested at the kiosk and the beach bar and during the summer in cultural fun house ‘The Puntito of El Socorro’.
Previously, the combination of the weather and proximity to the sea was interfering with connection so new equipment was needed.
The Mayor said there was a big demand for internet connectivity, not just by local people who used the beach with their families but visitors too, as well as a large number of athletes, particularly linked to the world of surfing, who wanted instant information on tides and surf conditions. “
There are four other wifi points locally, including the Municipal Library Viera y Clavijo, the House of Youth, Sports Complex Basilio Labrador and the Study Room and Rafael Yanes arts centre. The aim is to facilitate access to the World Wide Web for free, as internet has become an indisputable social tool.
