Fiesta time arrives in Puerto de la Cruz with nearly 100 events in July
Fiesta time has arrived in Puerto de la Cruz with nearly 100 events taking place over 31 days.
Details of the packed programme were revealed by the Mayor, Lope Afonso, councillor responsible for fiestas, Ruymán Garcia; the director of the Gala, David Hernandez and the author of the poster, Augustine Perera Berenguer.
Ruymán García said he wanted to thank everyone for their help in planning the activities which improved year after year and “made everyone proud to be part of Puerto de la Cruz.”
“The Fiestas of July are our roots, the beginning of an endless journey which is passed on from generation to generation,” he said. “The legacy of our family and residents.”
David Hernández said it was an honour to lead a gala of such importance and particularly highlighted the election of the fiesta queen and attendants on July 7th. This, he said, promised a few surprises on top of its 1970s and Love Boat theme.
Puerto Mayor, Sr. Afonso said it had been their desire to present a programme of elegance and dynamism, fitting for one of the leading destinations of Spain.
He said they had faced difficult times and gone through many difficulties but Puerto now wanted to showcase itself and project its new image.
The 31 days feature everything from sport, folklore, music and dance to religious acts, exhibitions, concerts, conferences, street entertainment, gastronomy, comedy and more. There is even a grand paella on July 17th.

Highlights include the traditional ceremony where the statue of the Virgen del Carmen and San Telmo arrives by boat on July 12th and a big procession at 5.30pm on the same day.
Puerto has pledged a major safety plan for the festivities.
The programme can also be picked up at the town hall or at various points around Puerto.
