Puerto to use social network sites to hit home anti-drugs message
Puerto de la Cruz is to use the social network sites to discourage young people from taking drugs.
The campaign will run during the rest of May, June and July until the school summer holidays.
The message will be relayed through Instagram, Twitter and Facebook and is organised by the local council’s drug dependency and social welfare depart-ment.
A series of activities will be held, together with various recommendations, for leading a healthy lifestyle free from addictions.
The campaign on the social networks will be supplemented by radio and TV advertising and will convey a positive message to young people about their way forward, rather than a negative one.
Councillor for social welfare, Víctor Manuel Cabo stressed the purpose of this campaign is to raise awareness and sensitise as many people as possible through various means, as well as asking them to pass on the philosophy to friends.
Actions will include the development of a virtual game of questions and answers on drug addiction issues, stickers and posters in schools, healthy habit messages and pictures on the social network and talks in schools.
The council says it shares the ethos that information and education are key to preventing drug use among young people and encouraging them to develop styles of positive, healthy and independent life.
The effects of using cocaine and cannabis will be particularly stressed.
