Wingwalker Ainhoa notches up a first for Spain
An intrepid wing walker has made history in the skies, 600 metres above the ground.
Ainhoa Sánchez, who made her debut in Northern Ireland just two years ago, became the first wing walker in Spanish history to complete a stomach-turning loop the loop on top of a biplane.
Her incredible achievement was cheered on by thousands of spectators who watched a thrilling air display from the beaches of the Med resort of Mar Menor in Murcia.
Ainhoa is Spain’s first wing walker and performs dance routines whilst strapped on to an old restored Boeing Stearman A75 doing speeds of up to 240 kilometres an hour.
More than 30,000 people attended 30th anniversary celebrations for the air display team of Patrulla Águila or Eagle Patrol which is made up of volunteer professional pilots.
Fourteen groups from Spain, France and Italy presented five hours of acrobatic displays.
Ainhoa made her professional debut with the great British pilot Mike Dentith in the Northern Ireland International Airshow, in the town of Portrush, Northern Ireland, in late August 2013.
She performs her stunts in an outfit akin to Wonder Woman and is one of the few female wing walkers in the world.
Her first flight was performed in Spain during the opening of an airport in Leon.
After completing her historic achievement, Ainhoa took to her Facebook site to say:
“Today was really amazing!!! My second Airshow in Spain was a success!! All the participants were brilliant. Thanks to everyone for attend and for support us.
We achieve the loop in a beautiful location!! First time in Spain and for an Spanish wingwalker. “
