Boost for Espíritu Triabona with 10km certification
Organisers of the Espíritu Triabona held each summer in Granadilla have received a very welcome boost.
The event has become the fourth approved ten kilometre circuit in the Canary Islands (and the third in Tenerife) as it grows in popularity.
Recently, two officials from the Spanish Athletics Federation ratified the circuit which was created in 2013.
Its approval means it joins the Caserío del Socorro in Güímar, the 10 Km in Las Galletas and the Urban Night Run in Los Llanos de Aridanes (La Palma).
The certification of the Triabona was done in the early morning to avoid the rush hour and saw the two representatives of the Federation follow the route on bicycles with measurement equipment down to the last millimetre.
Because the streets are travelled in the opposite direction, they were accompanied by the police.
The measurement circuit is marked by a protocol established by the Association of International Marathons and Distance Races (AIMS) and the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) and consists of measuring the shortest possible route and drawing up a perfect straight line.
