Solidarity calendar goes on sale to further volcanic research
A new solidarity calendar produced by the Volcanology Institute of Canarias has been designed to be educational as well as informative.
It has been produced by Involcan, an entity promoted by Tenerife Cabildo through the Technological Institute of Renewable Energies (ITER) and has the collaboration of the Directorate General of Security and Emergency of the Canary Government.
The new edition was presented by Minister of Innovation, Antonio García Marichal; the Deputy Minister of Environment, Blanca Perez and chief scientist of Involcan, Nemesio Perez.
The new calendar has been dubbed “The Canary Islands, a volcanic window in the Atlantic” and aims to transmit knowledge to visitors and local people alike about the rich volcanic diversity found here.
This is in keeping with a campaign launched by Tenerife Cabildo to educate society and provide training for the future.
Blanca Pérez said this was an attractive timetable with provided the tourist with more than sun and sand and was a great teaching aid as well.
The monthly wall calendar features a host of photographs of different buildings and structures in the Canaries with an explanatory note in Spanish and English together with key dates about historical eruptions.
The calendar itself is in Castilian, English, German and French. It can be purchased online for ten euros plus postage either through Paypal or by bank transfer (more information on www.iter.es).
It can also be purchased directly for ten euros in the following outlets: Volcanology Institute of the Canary Islands (Puerto de la Cruz), Visitor Centre ITER (Industrial Estate of Granadilla) and the Volcano Visitor Centre San Antonio (Fuencaliente).
The calendars in recent years have all had different subjects related to the understanding of volcanoes.
