Thrilling showjumpng once again puts Arona on the map
South Tenerife has been hosting thrilling showjumping at the highest level.
A huge crowd turned out for the “Nacional Nocturno” (“Night National”) in Playa de las Americas.
The three-day national event was a huge success and provided plenty of thrills for the spectators who flooded in to the horse riding centre in Buzanada.
The competition featured some of the country’s top riders and enjoyed the huge bonus of being free to watch.
Around 150 riders took part in the night event which by tradition only starts at 6pm and goes on well into the night. It is now in its 15th year and is unique in its character and enjoyment.
Once again, thousands of euros in prize money was up for winning and was presided over by a world ringmaster, Marcos Núñez García.
The event was organised by Club Hípico Sur de Tenerife with backing from Arona Council which was delighted to be involved.
Councillor for tourism, David Pérez said: “We consider this sport very important in our policies for the development and growth of Arona with a cross-reference between sport and tourism and adding to the tourism offer. We support and work for sports events as outstanding as this one to increase national and international presence.”
Luis Astolfi, internationally-renowned horseman, praised the wonderful organisation of the competiton and the great participation of everyone who loves show jumping.”
Thanks to outstanding work like this, young talent was being developed in the Canary Islands and there were many Canary riders participating on the mainland and even in the top ten.
Centro Hípico del Sur is one of the pioneers of the Canary Islands since it started in the 1990s and currently organises four competitions a year of a very high standard with the participation of international riders.
