Major investigation after fatal firework factory explosion
Six people were killed in a firework factory explosion in Zaragoza.
The disaster happened at Pyrotechnics Zaragoza, one of the biggest firework manufacturers in Europe which has supplied countries all over the world, including the UK, Germany, Denmark, Canada, Switzerland and Holland. It has been responsible for a number of major displays at public events and has won numerous awards.
It was founded in 1860 and among its staff there are specialised technicians, engineers and chemists. The company has the most advanced technological means existing in the pyrotechnic market.
Six other employees were injured in the blast and subsequent fire which totally destroyed the factory at Garrapinillos, about nine kilometres from Zaragoza where the explosion was heard.
An investigation has started into the cause of the explosion but it is expected to take some time to complete.
