Drama at recycling centre as fire crews deal with blaze alert
This was the dramatic scenes as firefighters fought a blaze in an appliance recycling factory in Arico.
The black smoke could be seen from miles around as the drama happened at around 3.30pm.
A massive presence was necessary to both control the fire and to stop it from spreading.
Firefighters from San Miguel de Abona and Santa Cruz were joined by volunteers from Adeje and Granadilla.
The emergency services were alerted by a call to the 112 control centre, with a report of a column of black smoke being seen coming from the premises.
The source was found to be inbetween two brick walls which produced a significant amount of smoke but with no danger that the building would collapse.
The crews had to remain at the scene for several hours to make sure there was no further risk of the fire spreading to appliances stored in the warehouse ready for recycling.
