Canary photographers urged to take part in sixth competition

Tenerife Cabildo and El Corte Inglés have announced details of the sixth competition for Informative and Documentary Photography.

The winners and selected works will be exhibited in the cultural space of the Santa Cruz department store as part of Fotonoviembre 2015.

Details were signed by Tenerife Cabildo’s culture and education director, José Luis Rivero and Manuel Marrero of El Corte Inglés, with director of the Tenerife Photography Centre, Antonio Vela.

The contest was launched in 2005 with the aim of drawing attention to the work of informative photographers. Winning work will be shown in the 13th edition of Fotonoviembre on the island from November 8th to early 2016.

José Luis Rivero thanked El Corte Inglés for its commitment and helping to highlight the work of Canary photographers. He stressed that this year, the contest was not just for press photographers but for those involved in documentary photographs as well.

El Corte Inglés will be giving 3,000 euros for the best photo, 1,800 euros for the second and 1,200 euros for the third.

Antonio Vela said it was very important to have the support of El Corte Inglés and explained that for this edition, Canary photographers can submit work taken outside the archipelago. However, these will not be eligible for the main prizes but for special awards.

Photographers resident in the Canaries can submit works taken in the Canaries over the last two years.

Those interested in participating in this competition should send their work to TEA Tenerife Espacio de las Artes (Center of Photography Island of Tenerife, C / San Sebastian, 8, 38003 Santa Cruz de Tenerife) before 14.00 pm on October 2 . Those interested can visit the bases in www.fotonoviembre.com pages and www.teatenerife.es
