Tenerife gets into a Twitter as Tom Jones concert draws closer

Tom Jones fever is hotting up in Tenerife and the Welsh singer is all set to become a trending topic.

Some 6,000 people will be attending his concert in Santa Cruz on August 28th, the only one in Spain this year and billed as possibly one of the last few opportunities to see the maestro in a live international show.

The promoters, Yes, Why Not? and Sievento have set up Twitter and Facebook sites where social network fans can follow all the news about the concert in the Recinto Feria. Here, they are also promising trivia, ticket competitions and a few surprises!

A press conference was attended by Tenerife Cabildo’s tourism councillor, Alberto Bernabé; councillor for the Santa Cruz Deve-lopment Society, Alfonso Cabello; president of the Chamber of Commerce of Santa Cruz, José Luis García; Estrella Mateo of Yes Why Not? and singer Ricca (alias Esther Ovejero).

The concert, to start at 10.30pm, will be preceded on August 25th by a special party, where Ricca will perform. Guests will include holders of the 200 euro Golden VIP tickets.

Estrella Mateo said they were bringing the show featuring one of the most important artists of the music scene to Sant Cruz because they felt the city deserved it and because the island was always keen to host inter-national pop concerts, particularly in English.

Alberto Bernabé wished the concert every success and felt it would help to strengthen the image of the capital which had four and five star hotels to ac-commodate as many people as needed on their arrival in Santa Cruz to attend the concert.

He said the Cabildo was working very closely with the organisers because such events were in line with their ambitions for the island and city.

José Luis García said Tenerife was welcoming Tom Jones in concert for the first time and “this was a luxury for the island.”

Tickets are available from a number of sources, including www.muchoviaje.com, www.ticketbell.com, www.entrees.es, www.canariaviaja.com and www.viajesinsular.net.

Four types of tickets are avaiable for 65 euros, 90 euros, 130 euros and 200 euros which include different privileges.

Those with Golden VIP tickets will be entered into a draw for the chance to meet Tom Jones in person.

The Welsh singer will be accompanied by his band featuring drums, guitars, keyboard, trombone, sax and trombone.
