Spectacular show of lights and flowers
Decorated plazas, floats and fireworks tempted thousands of people to the town and port of Garachico for a long-held tradition.
“Los Fuegos del Risco” and “La Atalaya” brought the annual Fiestas Lustrales del Santísimo Cristo de la Mi-sericordia to a close in stunning style.
The colourful procession made its way through the streets adorned with paper flowers and coloured lan-terns whilst other locations had also been decorated by residents. In fact, organisers estimate there must have been one and a half million paper flowers throughout Garachico.
The firework display commemorated the 1706 eruption of the Trevejo volcano and is a show of light unique to the Canary Islands. Fireballs are then rolled down hill to simulate the flow of lava which engulfed a huge part of the town and harbour centuries ago.
