Scans on a Sunday could reduce waiting lists

Waiting lists have to be reduced and diagnostic testings in the evenings and at weekends is one of the ways forward, says the Canary Government.

Minister for health, Jesús Morera says performances in hospitals must be “optimised” and he believes patients waiting for a scan would find attending on a Sunday no problem at all.

How this will be achieved remains to be seen, however. Sr. Morera said it might require more staff although existing personnel might be quite happy to do overtime. If not, then more people would have to be hired.

He said the main problem facing the health service at the moment was waiting lists and emergency treatment and the government would soon be making new proposals to help combat this.

He believes the Canary Islands needs a new structure to deal with priorities and development of a new emergency plan is one of the priorities of the new government in its first year of office.

To do all this, of course, requires funding and he conceded that this is an issue which will need to be addressed.

Meantime, the new director of the Canary Islands Health Service (SCS), Roberto Moreno has promised a new approach, with more transparency and more dialogue.
