Monument now restored to former glory
A stunning monument to the sea has been restored to all its former glory after, ironically, being damaged by the ocean itself.
The Urban Consortium for Rehabilitation of Puerto de la Cruz has completed repairs and restoration of the “Monumento al mar” created by world-renowned Lanzarote artist, César Manrique.
President of Tenerife Cabildo, Carlos Alonso who is also chairman of the consortium visited the site at the tourist complex of Costa Martiánez, together with the Mayor of Puerto, Lope Afonso to see the work. They were accompanied by local councillors, Coromoto Yanes and Sandra Rodríguez.
This project, which represents an investment of 62,772 euros, has restored one of the most characteristic and most identified emblems of Lago Martiánez.
The sculpture was in urgent need of attention because of serious damage caused by the effects of the sea.
