Major refurbishment of skate park thrills La Orotava
Skate-boarders are in seventh heaven in La Orotava following completion of the long-awaited project to provide and upgrade a new skate park in the municipality.
The facility had been requested for some time but had been delayed for various reasons.
Now, it has been completed following a 90,000 euro investment by Tenerife Cabildo as part of the “Tenerife 2030” youth initiative.
The new park is situated in the area of the Mayorazgo sports complex and has totally upgraded the elements which were installed years ago and are outdated.
Cabildo president, Carlos Alonso recently paid a site visit, along with the Mayor, Francisco Linares and sports councillor, Eduardo Rodríguez.
Sr. Alonso praised the outcome of the comprehensive project to provide skate-boarders with the best conditions and the Mayor confirmed how eagerly awaited it had been. The park would allow enthusiasts to practise the sport in the best and safest conditions.
He also called on them to play their part by respecting the facilities and helping to look after them.
Local youngsters have been asked to submit sketches of graffiti which could become art work in the area.
The park is nearly 800 square metres and has various features including ramps, wheelies, banks, fun box and grinder.
The Cabildo has also invested in the creation of a climbing wall for La Orotava which will be ready soon and also helped to refinance other sports facilities.
