Los Sabandeños in unique anniversary concert in Las Palmas
The popular Canary group Los Sabandeños have chosen the stage of the Auditorio Alfredo Kraus in Las Palmas to celebrate their 50th anniversary on October 3rd at 9.30pm.
The concert, unique in the archipelago and being re-corded by TVE, will be divided into two parts.
The first will be dedicated to the group’s best known and most loved songs, followed by an interpretation of segments of La Cantata del Mencey Loco together with the Orchestra of Las Palmas. The celebration will also feature special guest Mary Sánchez.
Los Sabandeños began their musical career in 1966 and 50 years have passed since the group of friends from La Laguna University decided to form the group. This was the start of their long history which has seen more than 70 recording projects, not just reflecting the traditional heritage of the Canary Islands but also their own creations and adaptations.
They have not only ad-dressed the different genres which make up the Canary folk repertoire but in parallel are dedicated to spreading the rich Latin American songbook.
Such has been the impact of the path of Los Sabandeños that the group has become the obligatory reference point for traditional music which goes beyond the scope of the Canaries.
Away from the archipelago, the group has achieved great success with concerts in all parts of the world, including Belgium, Italy, Portugal, USA, Mexico, Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, Cuba, Venezuela, Brazil, Uruguay, Argentina and Colombia.
The group has sold more than two million records in many of these countries, as well as Japan.
The current line-up consists of 35 members, although the number varies depending on the stage.
Tickets for the show are now available at various outlets and via www.auditorioteatrolaspalmasgc.es and www.entradas.com as well as on the night.
