La Gomera expecting a bumper August
La Gomera is anticipating an occupation rate of 80 per cent this August as the latest promotional campaigns start to pay dividends.
The island has been selling itself as “somewhere different” to go this summer.
The south is expected to be the busiest because of easier access and its close proximity to tourist attractions. However, the north of La Gomera, more linked to rural tourism, will also feel the benefit with growth expected.
The 80 per cent figure is being predicted by the Cabildo’s tourism department which has instigated a campaign in television and digital media to reinforce the different charms of the is-land.
The increased popularity appears to be helping jobs as well. According to the latest figures published by Social Security, the number of hotel workers grew by 232 in the last year which reinforces the importance of tourism to the local economy.
