How’s this for some rapid painting?
These paintings on show in El Rosario have a very special element. They were all created within seven hours and all on the same day.
Each year, the municipality hosts a fast painting compe-tition and the latest edition was the ninth.
The contest is organised by the culture department of the local council and was part of the celebrations in honour of Nuestra Señora de La Esperanza.
The winners were Miguel Rocha Rocha (first prie), Ariám Lázaro Pérez Barrios (second prize) and Natividad Aránzazu Revuelto (first prize, local artist). They received 600 euros, 300 euros and 200 euros respec-tively.
Twenty paintings were entered, having all been completed from 8.45am in the morning until 4pm without any pre-sketches or photos.
Councillor for culture, Fidel Vázquez Benito praised the high quality of the entries and stressed how the competition opened up new horizons for people and often led to the discovery of new talent.
El Rosario has always been committed to art and this discipline is one of the courses offered by the People’s University.
The works can be seen in the lobby of the town hall from 8pm to 2pm up until the end of August.
