First photo contest produces three winning shots

These stunning shots of Fuerteventura will help to promote the island around the world, including in Poland, Italy, Germany, the UK and France.

They were chosen as the winners of the first photographic competition organised by the Cabildo and will be used for external promotions.

The winner, who was presented with 1,000 euros, was Miguel Ponce Vilán who captured an incredible sunset over the beach of La Solapa.

The second prize of 500 euros went to  Francisco Miguel Vidic for his top of the mountain shot entitled “Cimas” (“Tops”) whilst Jonay Francés received 300 euros for being the most popular choice on a Facebook vote. His picture was entitled “Colours of the Atlantic”.

Cabildo president, Mario Cabrera said the first-time competition had proved a great success, with the photographs showing the fragility of the island’s landscape and its beauty.

First prize winner Miguel thanked his family for their patience as he pursued his hobby of photography. He had submitted four different shots, including the beach and the underwater world, “to awaken curiosity about the rich landscapes of Fuerteventura.”

President of the Association of Hotels and Tourism Fuerteventura (AEHTF), Antonio Hormiga also praised the idea of the competition and its new insight into images of the island.

The Tourist Board is adding 100 of the photos to its databank and intends to hold an exhibition of all the entries in due course.

The contest attracted 404 pictures.
