El Rosario to stage popular race for second time
A sporting event first held in El Rosario last year is to be repeated on July 25th because of its great success.
The second “Carrera Popular Nuestra Señora de La Esperanza” is being held as part of the patronal festivities and on this occasion, will have more places and categories. This edition will also have charitable status.
The fiestas in honour of Nuestra Señora de La Esperanza take place between July 22nd and August 8th, with the annual pilgrimage on August 2nd.
The race is over a six kilometre route through the town and the number of places for adults has been increased from 125 to 200. Places for children and the disabled are limited.
In addition, the five euro entry fee for adults will be donated to the “Asociación Benéfica Abiam y Airam” which is raising funds for two brothers sufferinf from a rare disease.
The registration period is open until July 17th and can be completed at the department for fiestas at the town hall or by ringing 922 01 01 60 Ext. 1004/1008 (also on line on the council’s website).
Building on the experience of the first race, this second edition will be divided into seven categories for various age groups and the handicapped. The start and finish are both in the area of the town hall though there will be a slight deviation in the original route, taking in calle El Calvario, the area around the Maximino Bacallado football campus and calle La Sardinera.
The starting times are also staggered from 9.30pm onwards.
Prizes will go the first three home in each of the categories.
