Drama in Alcalá as police launch drugs raid
The usual peace and quiet of the lovely town of Alcalá was shattered when a major police operation closed part of the centre, including the main road.
The drama happened just after 1pm on July 17th and though it might have seemed like instant action, police and the local council revealed investigations have been going on behind the scenes for several weeks.
The operation was a joint one between the Civil Guard and police of Guia de Isora and resulted in the arrest of two Italians, one in their 30s, the other in their 20s.
They raided a property in Calle Mondiola and found several marijuana plants and “a significant amount of substance” already bagged up and ready for sale.
Acting police chief and councillor for security, Francisco Ruiz and Ángeles González confirmed the operation had started several weeks ago and had been stepped up in the days before the raid, with an offical search warrant having been granted by the courts.
The operation was carried out by surprise and involved a substantial number of vehicles, members of the Civil Guard and police. They were accompanied by an interpreter who read the arrested men their rights.
Amongst the items found was a special extractor which prevented the smell of cannabis emitting from the back of the house.
