More concern over south hospital
Health campaigners are furious that it could be another two and a half years before the new south hospital becomes fully opera-tional.
Details have just been published of the contract to construct the operating rooms and obstretics and bids will soon be invited.
The closing date for information is June 23rd and once the work is allocated, the building time is put at 30 months from the signing of the agreement, whenever that might be.
It means the full hospital complex will not become a reality until at least January of 2018, if nothing else intervenes in the meantime. The budget for this is 10.5 million euros.
The Platform for the Hospital for the South has already said it is unacceptable that work has not yet started on this part of the complex or on other facilities such as a pharmacy and lab.
The Association for the Defense of Public Health of the Canary Islands is also incensed about the whole saga concerning the new hospitals in the north and south and says there are only health centres at the moment, not fully functional hospitals.
