Adeje Mayor outlines his “desire and illusion” in re-election bid
“I’m here because I have desire, illusion, design and the best team.” These were the words expressed several times as the current Mayor of Adeje, José Miguel Rodríguez Fraga launched his bid for a further term of office.
The socialist candidate delivered a rousing speech at the Magma Centre in front of a crowd of more than 2,500 people.
He stressed that much had been achieved by Adeje but there was no intention of resting on laurels. Instead, they would press forward for “and reinvent ourselves, not step back.”
Sr. Fraga said people had always been at the centre of his work and life and they were the municipality’s wealth. He said everyone had been helped, including those who were struggling during the economic crisis and no call for help had gone unanswered.
The mayor, who was accompanied by his family, advocated equal opportunities so people could live with dignity and to create a municipality with “a future, hope, enthusiasm and many ideas.”
He said tourism was the engine of growth and culture was also very important.
A large part of his speech was devoted to co-existence in Adeje where 120 different nationalities are represented. Everyone, he said, was fully accepted.
The event should have taken place 24 hours earlier but was postponed because of the air crash in Seville.He paid tributes to those who died and the Spaniards who lost their lives in Nepal.
The socialists also presented their general platform to fight for jobs, equal opportunities, enhancing the creative and innovative capacity of individuals, respect for the environment, tourism growth, innovation, welfare for citizens. modernisation of services, education, employment and training.
Number two and three on the Adeje team are María Isabel Fernández González and Manuel Luis Méndez Martín. The rest of the team is made up of familiar faces, with a number of newcomers as well.
